To mount a TentBox (or any rooftop tent) to a van, you need to select roof bars or if suitable a roof rack  that meet specific criteria for safety, compatibility, and load-bearing capacity. Here's what you should look for and some recommended options:

Key Requirements for Roof Bars for a TentBox

  1. Vehicle Compatibility
Ensure the bars are made for your van's make, model, and roof type (e.g., bare roof, raised rails, flush rails, fixed points, or gutters).

  2. Dynamic Weight Capacity
Roof bars must support at least 75–100 kg dynamic load (the weight while driving). TentBoxes typically weigh between 50–70 kg, so your bars must match or exceed this.

  3. Bar Shape & Crossbar Type
TentBox is compatible with aero bars (aluminium) and square bars. Check that the bar cross-section is compatible with TentBox’s mounting brackets.

  4. Minimum Number of Bars
At least two crossbars are required, spaced as recommended by TentBox (usually 70–90 cm apart).

  5. Brand Recommendations
    TentBox officially recommends:

Van Guard ULTI Bar+ as they have a 80kg per bar load rating

 Important Notes

  • Dynamic vs. Static Load: Bars need to handle dynamic loads while driving (50–100 kg), but the static load (when stationary) is higher—usually enough for the tent + people sleeping inside.

  • Roof Load Rating: Check your van’s roof load limit in the manual—this includes bars + tent + gear.

  • Professional Fitting: Recommended if you're not sure, especially for vans without factory mounting points.
